Licensed, Approved & Certified
Slowpitch Softball Bats

There are six major governing groups for Slowpitch Softball in the USA.

These six groups have set their own rules for licensed, approved or certified Fastpitch Softball Bats. These are (click on the links below for the respective list of licensed, approved and certified Fastpitch Softball Bats):

ASA: Amateur Softball Association of America

ISA: Independent Softball Association

ISF: International Softball Federation

Little League (Softball)

NSA: National Softball Association

USSSA: United States Specialty Sports Association

Additional ASA Certification Information

The ASA established their current Fastpitch Softball Bat standard after two years of testing both in the field and in the laboratory - it is called the ASA 2004 Standard.

The standard focuses on the ball exit speed - the speed of a pitched ball after it has been hit with a bat. This speed MUST be less than 98 MPH and must meet the Bat Performance Factor standard of 1.20 (BPF-1.20).

All Fastpitch Softball Bats meeting these standards will be stamped with the new ASA 2004 certification logo.

Some Fastpitch Softball Bats have an exit speed greater than 100 MPH - these Fastpitch Softball Bats are illegal for ASA play.
