It is important to remember that Bat Speed, not bat size nor weight, drives the ball. Hence, Bat Speed and Bat Control are the two primary objectives when selecting a Fastpitch Softball Bat.

Bat Barrel and Balance
Another important factor in selecting a Fastpitch Softball Bat is the barrel length. The Bat Barrel is the top part of the bat, that is, the biggest diameter of the Fastpitch Softball Bat.

In general, a longer barrel length increases the potential hitting surface ("sweet spot") and will directly increase good bat and ball contact.

The Fastpitch Softball Bat Barrel standard is 2 3/4 inches.

Note: Many players prefer a smaller barrel that lightens weight and provides more swing speed.

You should also consider your hitting style. If you are a slap hitter, you will want a balanced Fastpitch Softball Bat. If you hit for power, then an end loaded bat will add distance and power

Bat Taper
This is the diameter of the bat's handle. Standard Fastpitch Softball Bats are tapered 31/32 of an inch but can be slightly larger or smaller depending on whether you want a lighter or heavier bat.

Some players like a narrower taper for the lighter weight and to rotate their wrists faster when hitting.

Bat Grip
The grip is the covering that Fastpitch Softball Bat manufacturers use on the handle of the bats.Leather or synthetic leather gives a tackier feel for a surer grip.

Rubber grips absorb more of the shock when the ball is hit. Some bats come with a cushioned grip to decrease the shock even more.
